In the modern age, games are across lots of different platforms, you can play on your computer, tablet or smartphone. But swapping between these devices creates changes in the games, for lots of different reasons and we will try to breakdown some of these reasons for you, and take a look at some of the differences.

One of the biggest changes you get when you play a game on different devices is how powerful they are. How much processing they can do and the level of graphics they can produce. A pc is much more powerful than even the top smartphones, and it can provide a much clearer look and feel to the game. There is also the size of the screen of course, a computer has a monitor where a phone is limited to a few inches. The middle ground is a tablet, where you have a bigger screen and in some cases as much to give as a PC.

Regardless, due to the smaller screen size, the menu bar that you’re so used to on the PC will not fit your mobile device. Thus, they have to either “compress” the buttons into a radial menu or something similar, or to remove the buttons, if they are unnecessary, altogether. They may even shift some options that you may usually find on your screen and hide them under the single option, Settings. So, if you can’t find an option that you usually have on PC, then you might want to take a look under Settings.

The main thing that changes then is how much power the game uses, a reduction in the game can have several changes, from the way it looks to some of the extra features. Although in almost every case the gameplay itself remains the same. You can still grow crops, look after animals and visit friends. It just looks different and maybe has some things in a different place.

Simply compare Farmville 2 and Farmville 2: Country Escape. Both are literally the same game, but the latter was optimized for mobile devices, particularly tablets, and hence, runs a lot better than say... if you tried loading Farmville 2 on your mobile web browser via Facebook.

When you play on a mobile device you also have different controls, you have no mouse and separate keyboard with which to do things. For example, instead of clicking, you'll need to tap, and for mass harvesting, you can swipe across your crops to harvest them all. The change in controls used will change how the game is designed, from how you plant your crops to how you harvest them.

Let’s not forget the last but not least, and most important reason for all the rage around mobile farm games – the convenience! I could personally remember needing to rush home just so I could get to my crops before they wilt in the old Farmville game. Of course, now I can harvest my crops on the go and will never need to worry about missing my harvest, wasting hundreds of in-game coins and hours of waiting for the crops to mature.

There are many changes, perhaps even more than you might think, for a company to design a farm game to fit the mobile platform. Despite being basically the same game as its browser-counterpart, there are some required changes to be made just so the game can be played on your phones or tablets. The changes may not be very welcomed, but honestly, the convenience afforded to the game’s players by bringing the game to the mobile platform is very much worth the tiny annoyances and hassles that the changes may cause.
